Potty training or Potty terror ?

As you all know I have a two year old son who I love very much ! But no matter how much you love your children diapers are too expensive . Who can agree with me ? I'm sure a lot of you who have kids can . I decided I wanted my son to be potty trained by the age of three , Since that's the age I was potty trained at . He's turning three in june and understands what to do when it comes to using the potty , but he just won't use it !


We took him to walmart with us so he could pick out the potty he wanted since it crossed my mind that maybe JUST maybe he would be more interested in using it if he picked out one he liked . I was right !!! He got a froggy potty lol which made him really happy and was excited to try. We got home and explained to him that the "froggy" was hi's toilet since mommy/daddy's toilet was too big for him . I took off his diaper and we just waited until he had to go which didn't take long . He did it !!! He peed and was very happy to have done it all alone .

Sadly , That didn't last very long :( He used the potty for about two days and we had no accidents at all until one day he just FREAKED OUT . He wanted nothing to do with froggy and would cry none stop until we put him back in a diaper . He would hide , run away and cry asking for hi's diaper saying "Mama please my diaper mine , no froggy" . He would tell me he was scared of it and we even tried the toilet with him which worked once but after he was also scared of it . After about a month of trying I decided to give him a break with potty training .

Am I being a bad mom by stopping ? Am I letting him control me ? I really don't think so ! I was told by many people that ^ but of course I was not going to let that affect my parenting . I spoke with hi's doctor about this problem and he explained that it was 100% normal , That I shouldn't rush him because if I did I was just going to make him terrified of using the bathroom . . which I think I did :/ .  I stopped worrying so much about him being potty trained and started showing him little by little different videos and books about potty training which have made him more into it . We also made a potty chart and got reward stickers for whenever HE wants to go bathroom alone , Like he says .

I'ts been about 6 months since I stopped going crazy over the whole potty training topic and we are doing very well . He's not 100% potty trained but uses the potty whenever he wants to ! He will be three soon and I really feel confident that by june he will be using the potty/bathroom more and more :) So , whats my point about this post ? Don't rush them ! they will get it , Sooner or later but they will . Lets not forget diapers are something they have used since the day they were born ! They are so comfortable in them that it will take time , patience and a lot of cleaning up to get your LO to let them go . (lesson learned lol)
