If you get treatment and have kids around . .

I have hereditary Angioedema and was diagnosed in 6th grade after getting swelling on my throat in class . It never crossed my mind that I would have this condition , specially forever . I started treatment for it in 2012 which means a nurse comes to my house twice a week to put on the meds . 

At first my son was terrified when he saw the nurse ! He would always think I was being hurt by her and would hide when he saw her . Since this is a treatment that I will keep getting for the rest of my life it was important for me that my son was not scared when nurses are around. 

I started calling him "my little doctor helper" and with the help of my nurse we started showing him everything ! He started helping by holding the box , passing the nurse the gloves , and helping her with the tourniquet . He stopped being scared and now loves to help :) 

It has also helped him so much when it comes to him visiting his doctor or when he's getting shots . He gets really excited when he sees the nurse now and says "time for healthy mama". That's just awesome to me ! As a mom with a hereditary health condition I don't ever want him to be scared or think mommy is being hurt . 

So mommies ! It's always good to keep our kids informed about what goes on and explain to them . It's not only good for them but also for us , moms :)
